SAPIO in one sentence

SAPIO is a Swiss company that lets schools, universities and training providers issue tamper-proof digital certificates that learners keep in their own wallet and employers verify in seconds.

About SAPIO

SAPIO GmbH, based in Unterägeri in the Canton of Zug, builds digital credential infrastructure for education and the labour market. Institutions use SAPIO to issue verifiable credentials, such as certificates, diplomas and micro-credentials, in the open formats used by swiyu, the Swiss federal wallet, and the EU Digital Identity Wallet: SD-JWT VC, OpenID4VCI and OpenID4VP. Learners keep the credentials in their own wallet; employers and other institutions check them without contacting the issuer. SAPIO grew out of a project at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU), is a consortium partner in the EU large-scale pilot WE BUILD and a member of DIDAS, the Swiss digital trust association, where it leads the Education Working Group.
